Deltona is located in the southwestern portion of Volusia County. As of the 2005 US Census, Deltona had a population of 82,788. The recent rapid growth of Deltona has everything to do with its central location. Only 25 miles northeast of Orlando and 20 miles southwest of Daytona Beach, Deltona is only a short drive away from many of Florida's great attractions, such as the Kennedy Space Center and Disney World.
Deltona serves mainly as a bedroom community to Orlando, although it also attracts a similar number of retirees due to its neighborhood feel. Deltona was one of the first pre-planned communities in Florida and continues to be marketed as such. The local country club features golf, tennis, swimming and dining while the town itself has a wealth of shopping venues and dining establishments.
Deltona's location in Volusia County puts it in close proximity to many parks. The Blue Spring State Park, the Canaveral National Seashore, DeLeon Springs State Park and Hontoon Island State Park are all favorites, offering camping, fishing, swimming, hiking and much more. Deltona is also very close to many beaches on Florida's east coast- an attraction for locals and visitors alike.
