Fairfield is located in Solano County in the northeast of the San Fransisco Bay Area and has a population of 104,897 (2006). Fairfield is home to Travis Air Force Base and the Jelly Belly factory. Major employers in the area include those in the agricultural industry, Anheuser-Busch, Jelly Belly, and the Jimmy Doolittle Air & Space Museum at Travis Air Force Base.
Recreational opportunities in the city can be found at three major parks that allow for running, bicycling, hiking, and sports. Fairfield is also home to three golf courses, two of which have been rated in the Zagat Survey of "America's Best Golf Courses" and voted numbers one and two for the best golf courses in Solano County for consecutive years. For other types of entertainment, downtown Fairfield offers shopping, dining, and community events like the Candy Festival and the Tomato Festival.
Fairfield's location halfway between San Fransisco and Sacramento on Interstate 80 gives it excellent access to these major metropolitan areas. Also nearby are recreational opportunities in the delta regions and Sierra Nevada Mountains, which are great for skiing and hiking.
