Modesto has a population of 206,300, according to current U.S. Census estimates, and is the seat of Stanislaus County. Located in California’s San Joaquin Valley, Modesto is less than two hours away from many of California’s prime locations, such as San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, and Yosemite Park. West of Modesto and the valley lies the coastal mountain range, beyond which is the San Francisco Bay Area. Eastward are the foothills that house the famed gold country and lead to the Sierra Nevada mountain range and Yosemite National Park. The San Joaquin Valley happens to be the heart of one of the greatest agricultural areas in the nation. Therefore, Modesto is blessed with top commodities such as dairy products, almonds, apricots, melons, tomatoes, wine grapes, peaches, walnuts, and poultry products.

A Modesto spring means the delightful sights and smells of orchard blossoms, while summer and fall mean its time to taste the wonderful treats the blossoms render. May through November is harvest season, a great time to “taste Modesto” at the Farmers Market or one of the many fresh produce stands in the area. Modesto is the birthplace of George Lucas and the inspiration for his popular film American Graffiti. Throughout the month of June visitors and locals enjoy festivities from classic car parades to street fairs, concerts, and showings of American Graffiti as they celebrate Graffiti Summer.

There are plenty of shopping opportunities at the regional mall or local shopping centers, or you can play a round of golf, browse the antique stores, visit the McHenry Mansion and Museum, stop by the world-renowned E & J Gallo Winery (the world’s oldest family-owned winery), or picnic in one of Modesto’s many parks.
