Peoria, AZ (Population: 138,200)

Peoria, Arizona is one of the major suburbs of Phoenix. Like its neighbors, Peoria was already a small rural community before it became one of Phoenix's surrounding bedroom communities. The rapid growth of Peoria was due to the postwar boom and the presence of Luke Air Force Base. Peoria continues to grow today, having annexed the land around the Lake Pleasant Regional Park in 1999.

The Peoria Sports Complex is the spring training home of the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. The Complex also hosts many concerts, festivals, and private and business-related events each year. These festivals include the annual All American Festival and the Peoria Stadium Arts and Crafts Festival which occurs on a seasonal basis.

One of Peoria's most famous and well known educational and cultural attractions is the Challenger Space Center of Arizona which provides numerous educational programs for people of all ages. The Space Center features planetarium shows and hosts stargazing events with high-powered telescopes. Also in the entertainment business, as of 2007, the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts was completed.
