Sunnyvale, California had a population of 128,902 as of the 2005 census estimate. Located in Santa Clara county, Sunnyvale is one of the major cities in the Silicon Valley. According to the Morgan Quitno Awards, Sunnyvale is the 18th safest city in the United States. The city is also unique in that it is one of the few places that has a unified Department of Public Safety, meaning that police officers and firefighters are one in the same.
There are several high-tech companies with headquarters in Sunnyvale, including Yahoo!, AMD, Juniper Networks and Palm, Inc., among others. Onizuka Air Force Station is also located there. This base is the primary control facility for artificial satellites in the United States. There are also several aerospace and defense companies located in the area.
Hands on the Arts is a local festival mainly geared towards children, offering food, entertainment and a variety of workshops and creative activities for kids. A great event for all ages, the Sunnyvale Cherry Festival has cooking demonstrations, cherry tastings, games and more. The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce hosts the Art and Wine Festival each year. This annual event features live entertainment, international food and of course, plenty of wine and art.
